Prifddinas Waterfall Fishing

Following last week's double helping of blood and mayhem, it's high time to kick back and relax.

Waterfall Fishing is here – inspired by RuneLabs contributor Ferenc2017 - and it's the ideal high-level, low-intensity Fishing training method after a busy day's slaying, PKing or real-lifing. It'll be a top choice for Double XP Weekend, too – starting 25th September at 12:00 UTC (game time).

Play now, or read on to find out more.

How to Start

The waterfall is in the north-east of Prifddinas, between the outer reaches of the Meilyr and Crwys Districts.

Requirements

You must be a RuneScape member
93 Fishing
90 Agility
90 Ranged
90 Strength
95 and 97 Fishing required for mid and high-level spots.
Mithril grapple

This content is entirely available to Ironman players.

Grapple your way to the top of the waterfall to access this angler's paradise. Once you're there, fish to your heart's content, chatting with your friends and enjoying the best Fishing XP rates in the game.

The waterfall's swarming with urchins, the biggest ones found at the higher-level fishing spots. As well as granting Fishing XP when caught, they can be ground down into harmony dust. This – in turn – can be used to upgrade fishing juju potions to a 'perfect' variety that gives +5% fishing success for an hour, plus the juju fishing potion's benefits.

Note that the perfect juju fishing potion's effect is now also granted by the perfect plus potion.

Watch out for fun random events such as geysers and big fish, and some unique, rare catches – such as the customisable hermit crab pet.

Urchins can also be redeemed for urchin points at the waterfall's shop, which can be spent on rewards such as Fishing lamps, the crystal rod – a charge-based angling implement that grants you an additional +5% success chance – andcustomisations for your hermit crab:

Take in a little tranquility and chalk up some Fishing levels while you're at it. WhenDouble XP Weekend starts at 12:00 game time on Friday 25th, there'll be few better places to hit that 99.

Enjoy, and give us your feedback over on the forums.

Dev Blog: Halloween

All Hallows Eve is almost upon us again and, as usual for this time of year, Death is hosting his annual Halloween Party. The only issue is has an unwelcome guest that he just can't seem to rid himself of and he’s not invited!

We will be polling the Halloween event described in this blog starting this Thursday.

Death & Anti-Santa
Posted Image

After failing to convince Gielinorians everywhere to abandon their Wintumber revelry for the sobering malaise of everyday life; Anti Santa sought out his old buddy the Grim Reaper, for a much needed dose of cynicism.

Grim was more than happy to trade a few discordant tales with the contrarian humbug at first, but the problem with these contentious, nihilistic types is; they never know when to leave!
Posted Image

It’s been ten months now since Anti-Santa parked his frosty backside on the Reaper’s couch and he has just about had enough. Your task is to get Anti-Santa out of Death's mansion and out into the cold where he belongs.

Rewards

This year you will be able to unlock a number of new rewards from the Halloween event. You will be able to get your hands on:

   Live stream events

As has become tradition with Old School and holidays, we will be hosting a number of community live stream events throughout the season of spooks. If you want to grab yourself some extra Halloween goodies, make sure that you watch out for our streams on the RuneScape Twitch.tv channel.
  • Anti-Santa's new, comfortable attire (to be revealed during the event).
  • A pet tortured soul.
  • An invitation to Death's Halloween party.
  • A new, deathly wallkit for your player-owned house.
  • The Ash emote.
Please note: The pet tortured soul will be polled separately to the event.

As always, you will also be able to get your hands on all of the rewards from previous years if you haven't already. This includes:

  • Skeleton outfit.
  • Scythe.
  • Jack lantern mask.
  • Zombie head.
  • The Scared emote.
  • Black h'ween mask.
  • Grim reaper hood.
  • Pumpkins.
  • Red, blue and green h'ween masks.
  • An additional green skin colour from the Makover Mage.

You can expect the return of the classic "hide and seek" streams, just like those that Mods Mat K and Ronan have previously hosted with great success, as well as any other enjoyable events you can think of. If you have any ideas for fun and engaging streams that we can host make sure to let us know. The more ideas we have the more streams we can do.

New Animations & Barbarian Assault Changes

This week we have got some fancy new animations for the toxic blowpipe and ectophial along with some changes to Barbarian Assault that will make your experience with the minigame a lot smoother. On top of this we have the usual plethora of small quality of life changes and bug fixes.

Blowpipe special attack & ectophial animations

The special attack of the toxic blowpipe now has a custom animation. The power of the blowpipe special attack is now properly represented with a snake head sent flying, looking to sink those fangs into your opponent.
Posted Image

We have also added a custom animation for the ectophial. Choosing to teleport with the ectophial will have you pour out the liquid and get whisked away by a mysterious undead character.
Posted Image

Barbarian Assault Changes

Several changes have been made to Barbarian Assault which will make your experience of playing the minigames a lot smoother.

Increased point limit

The limit on the number of points you can store in each role has been raised to 5,000.
Posted Image

Storing queen kills

It is now possible to store up to 15 queen kills at once, rather than having to immediately use the queen kill credit you had just earned. This should allow you to play many, many more rounds of Barbarian Assault before having to spend your points.

High level gamble counter

High level gambles that you purchase from the Barbarian Assault rewards shop are now tracked. A count of how many you have purchased is displayed as you receive a high level gamble reward. This counter does not count gambles that you may have purchased prior to this update.

In other news...

Quality of life changes
  • Adamant bar drops from Aviansies in the Godwars Dungeon are now noted for players that have completed the hard Fremennik achievement diary.
  • An additional attack style has been added to the trident to prevent it switching your selected attack style for other weapons. This new attack style has no impact on combat stats.
  • Spiritual rangers, mages and warrior have now been grouped into a single slayer task of spiritual creatures. You can choose which of the three you would prefer to kill when you receive this new assignment.
  • The ectotoken limit at the ectofuntus has been raised to 65, allowing 13 bones to be offered in a single inventory.

Bugfixes

This week we have a number of bugfixes, many of them thanks to the reports sent in by players using the in-game bug report form.
  • The issue with Castle Wars tracking the players on each team going out of sync has been resolved.
  • Canoes are now listed correctly as F2P content in the Woodcutting skillguide.
  • Additional ores gathered by Varrock armours now provide the bonus experience from the Prospector's outfit.
  • Using ESC to close interfaces now functions with the rune pouch and bank deposit box interfaces.
  • A tile which could not be walked onto near black salamanders has been fixed.
  • The Palm tree top at Mudskipper Point no longer renders behind the grass when 'Remove roof' is enabled.
  • A player can no longer cast energy transfer when stood in multi combat wilderness to a player stood in single combat wilderness.
  • Scarab Swarms should no longer follow you outside of Pyramid Plunder.
  • Making swamp tar now consistently filters game messages.
  • The warnings if duelling options change will now show even if you haven’t clicked accept yet.
  • It is now possible to boost your fletching level to make crossbows like most other equipment.
  • Corrected some grammar in the skills necklace teleport message.
  • The Firemaking skillguide has been updated to include information about Barbarian Firemaking.
  • You can no longer perform skillcape emotes aboard the Fishing Trawler.
  • Typo fixed in Ardougne Diary's journal.
  • Typo in Morytania Diary journal fixed.
  • A typo in the hard emote clue telling you to laugh in Jokul's tent has been fixed.
  • Typo fixed on an elite clue scroll.
  • Typo fixed in one piece of Uri’s dialogue.
  • The Kraken whirlpool can no longer be damaged by poison.
  • The Bounty Hunter Rogue hat will now be kept as expected upon death under the current temporary death system.
  • It is no longer possible to light a fire AND keep the logs.
  • The cannon should no longer produce the message "Someone else is fighting that".
  • Using any of the staircases in Pollnivneach no longer delays the player from moving briefly.
  • Removed a levitating mast from the ship in Ardougne.
  • Added game messages related to making pottery to the game filter.
  • The games necklace teleport menu now lists Burthorpe rather than Burthorpe games room, to reflect the recent change in teleport location.
  • Fixed the idle animation of Advisor Ghrim & Knights of Saradomin.

Treasure Hunter | Corrupted Chests

The nights are drawing in, Halloween's on the horizon, and things are getting dark over on Treasure Hunter – time for Corrupted Chests!

From 00:00 UTC (game time) on 1st October until 23:59 UTC on 5th October, you'll see an ominous-looking charge bar at the top of the Treasure Hunter interface. Fill this up by using Keys, by skilling or killing in game, or a combination.

The bar has four stages. Once you charge it up to these levels, unique prizes will become available to win in Treasure Hunter chests:

Stage 1 | Dark Lamps & Stars

These work like normal lamps and stars but give +10% XP per stage unlocked – that's +40% with the bar maxed!

Stage 2 | Scrimshaw of Aggression

When activated, this pocket-slot item causes nearby enemies to attack the player. The effect lasts for 1 hour before the scrimshaw degrades to dust.

Note that this does not affect enemies already in combat, unable to attack the player, immune to tagging or immune to special effects – such as bosses.

Stage 3 | Scrimshaw of Sacrifice

When activated, this pocket-slot item prevents tradeable item drops in return for +50% combat XP and +50% Slayer XP. The effect lasts for 1 hour before the scrimshaw degrades to dust.

Stage 4 | Scrimshaw & Helm of Corruption

Once you Stage 4, you can win or create the scrimshaw of corruption, which combines the functions of the two scrimshaws mentioned above. Any that you win can be broken down into one of each if you want to use the effects separately.

You can also win the helm of corruption – a spectacular cosmetic headpiece that tracks your kill streaks. Enemies killed within 15 seconds of one another increase the count, and the helm looks increasingly sinister whenever you hit a 5, 15 and 50 streak. You can even right-click the helm to find out your personal best.

The Abyssal Sire

Posted Image

The Abyssal Sire is a challenging new slayer boss found in the abyss. The Sire takes the idea of a slayer boss and pushes it to the next level. Get ready for the fight of your life.

The Abyssal Sire requires 85 Slayer and either an Abyssal Demon or Abyssal Sire slayer task to kill.

You can access the Abyssal Sire by heading to the south side of the abyss and passing through the southern passage.
Posted Image

A fairy ring can be found south of this passage if you would like to access the boss without needing the help of the Mage of Zamorak.

Of course, if you are able to defeat a monster the calibre of the Sire you stand a good chance at being rewarded. Two new weapons are now available as drops from the Abyssal Sire.

Posted ImageAbyssal bludgeon

The abyssal bludgeon is a two-handed weapon that requires 70 attack and strength to equip. It has the following stats:
  • +102 Crush attack
  • +85 Strength
The abyssal bludgeon only has crush attack styles and can only be used to train strength (and hitpoints).

The special attack of the abyssal bludgeon costs 50% special attack energy and increases damage dealt by 0.3% for every prayer point that you are missing.

Posted ImageAbyssal dagger

The abyssal dagger is a one-handed weapon that requires 70 attack to equip. It has the following stats:
  • +75 Stab attack
  • +75 Strength
The special attack of the abyssal dagger costs 50% special attack energy. The special attack hits twice in quick succession (just like the dragon dagger) with 15% reduced damage. If the first hit deals damage, so will the second. Both hits deal damage or neither do.

So - what are you waiting for? The Abyssal Sire awaits! If you think you've got what it takes to defeat the bloated beast make your way to the abyss and give it your best shot.

Behind the Scenes – October 2015

October's full of outlandish and beautiful locations. They may not be safe as they seem, however, so you might want to pack a weapon or two. There's Mazcab, under threat from Tuska's airut in our goebie quest, Call of the Ancestors. One of Gielinor's most iconic cities receives a graphical overhaul and falls under siege by the Black Knights in Invasion of Falador. Finally, there's the Underworld, where the dead are being devoured in Halloween 2015.

Call of the Ancestors | Novice Quest

Posted Image

Anyone who's travelled to Mazcab will be familiar with the goebies and their predicament: the airut are flattening their villages, while rocks are flattening them. Everywhere they go, everywhere they look, there's death, unhappiness and big, killer boulders.

In Call of the Ancestors, Acca Kanatah will draw a line in the sand, and call on you to shore up his village's defences. But it's from these humble seeds that something grander grows. You'll be joined on an eventful journey by three young goebies - Tunks, Peck and Lunch - who will learn to defend themselves, hit each other with tools, and become heroes on the path to the secret of Mazcab.

This may be a Novice quest, but there are puzzles and action sequences to keep you on the edge of your rock. It's also mad as a bucket of frogs and twice as funny. Complete Call of the Ancestors, and we'll hand you some goebie-like cosmetics - plus a sizeable reward for those who enjoy the Liberation of Mazcab Raids.

Call of the Ancestors is our first bottle quest. Bottle quests are shorter and smaller in scope, but jam-packed with character, plot and immersion. We're hoping that you'll enjoy these compact quests so that we can make more of them, upping the number of stories that we tell in a given year. More information at RuneFest on Saturday, October 3rd!

Invasion of Falador | Event and Graphical Rework

Posted Image

For decades, the Black Knights have hated the White Knights for their wealth, resources, and their tendency to bustle in on other people's affairs. But the Black Knights have spotted a weakness: the White Knights, holed up in their castle, believe they're safe. For two weeks in October, they will prove them wrong by laying siege to the once-peaceful city of Falador.

Fight for either side (or both, if you fancy), take down their champions, demolish catapults, pop balloons, and care for the sick and wounded. By doing so, you'll gain valuable XP and fill your pockets with commendations. Cash in those commendations for rewards, including XP lamps, bobblehead knight pets and a candyfloss mace. At the end of the event, we'll reveal which side was most supported.

That's just the half of it. A treasure hunt will take you across Falador in search of the fabled Banner of Raddallin, while Falador archaeologists will have unearthed a mysterious chest in Falador Park. This chest will require you and the community to dig it out, but what's inside? Well, we wouldn't want to ruin the surprise.

The Artisans' Workshop will have a helpful 50% XP and 200% reputation boost, and the Giant Mole will yield double drops for the two weeks. All of this comes lovingly packaged in a graphical rework that brings an extra sheen to the pearly whites of Falador.

Virtual Levelling | Ninja Update

Many of you are aiming beyond level 99 in your skills, and it's time you got tools to measure and show off those goals. This month, we'll release Virtual Levelling, which will be an opt-in mode to visually display your levels out of 120, rather than 99. There are no gameplay benefits to this – just a little extra joy when progressing past 99.

Those who opt in to Virtual Levelling will see the lofty levels of everyone else; those who opt out will not see other players' virtual levels. In addition, we'll make cosmetic changes to the skill interface for those who want them, giving players the choice of icons or a trim to show off the skills they have (virtually) maxed.

Halloween 2015 | Holiday Event

Far beneath Gielinor lies the Underworld, never before seen by living eyes. It's here that Icthlarin guides the dead across the River Noumenon and onto a peaceful afterlife. A pretty big obstacle has landed in Icthlarin's way, however, in the form of his sister – Amascut. She has a taste for souls, and funeral chimes are more like a dinner bell for her.

Icthlarin will desperately need your help. You'll take a portal to the bridge across the River Noumenon, where you'll jump into rickety boats and gather wayward souls. You'll then escort them over the bridge, fending off devourer beasts with your combat or Divination skills. It's here that the biggest trial awaits: the Avatar of Amascut. Defeat her together, and the way will be free for the souls to move onto the next life – whatever that may be.

We'll sweeten the deal by offering new gravestones, a death animation, a special pet and an item of benefit to Herblore and Firemaking fans. We'll also place a quicker and more efficient Ectofuntus into the area so that you can train up Prayer between your bouts of soul searching.

Pet of Seasons and More

This October, we bring you the adorable Pet of Seasons. As with the Crown or Cape of Seasons, you'll gain small components while you're skilling, or from Treasure Hunter. Gain enough of them and you'll unlock individual sprout pets, and combine them together to form the tradeable and sought-after Pet of Seasons, which will change according to the time of year. It's almost too cute – just look at the little blighter!

Posted Image

That's not all – there will be golden tools available on Treasure Hunter to uncover the chest in Falador Park, and Solomon will introduce a Revenant Outfit with a floating animation that sweeps you off your feet.

Treasure Hunter | Pet of Seasons

Make four seasonal pets, then combine them into a perennially faithful follower for your adventures: the Pet of Seasons.

From 00:00 UTC on 8th October until 23:59 UTC on 13th October, Treasure Hunter will yield four types of natural material: flourishing seeds, lush blossoms, fallen leaves and charred branches.

These can also collected through gameplay too: by training Herblore,Woodcutting, Farming and Firemaking, respectively. You can also swap materials of any of the four types by trading directly with other players.

Collect 600 of any one type to make the corresponding seasonal pet. Create all four and combine them to get a Pet of Seasons token. This can be traded on the Grand Exchange, or activated if you’d prefer to keep the pet for yourself. It’s possible to create more than one token and trade the ones you don’t keep.

Every three months, the Pet of Seasons changes its appearance to match the time of year: blossoming in spring, verdant in summer, golden-brown in autumn and snowy in winter. If you wish, you can invert the seasons with a right-click.

The Pet of Seasons is the ideal adventuring partner all year round, and is sure to be highly sought-after. It’s the perfect match for the Crown and Cloak of Seasons, too.

Any spare materials will be cleared up on 28th October, but before then you can trade them for Bonus XP in their related skill by speaking to Lady Niya in Burthorpe.

Note that Ironman players can collect materials and create pets, but they cannot:
  • Trade materials with other players.
  • Trade the Pet of Seasons token.
  • Trade spare materials for Bonus XP.

Have Fun!

We hope to see a good few Pets of Seasons bouncing around the game in the near future. Enjoy, and let us know your thoughts over on the forums.
